Definition of ‘spectre’
1. a ghost; phantom; apparition. 2. a mental image of something unpleasant or menacing.
Greek ghost stories include the appearance of Clytaemnestra in Aeschylus’s Oresteia and the goddess Melinoë, who is associated with ghosts and nightmares
Clytaemnestra
In Oresteia, Clytaemnestra is a ghost who appears after she murders her husband, Agamemnon, with the help of Aegisthus.
Orestes kills Clytaemnestra and Aegisthus to avenge his father.
Orestes is then hunted by the Erinyes, or Furies, for committing matricide. The Erinyes were goddesses who punished those who broke the natural order.
Melinoë
Melinoë is the Greek goddess of ghosts and nightmares.
In one Orphic Hymn, Melinoë is described as a bringer of madness.
Melinoë’s name is sometimes thought to be an epithet of Hecate.
Other Greek mythological figures
Lamia: A female vampire who was the daughter of a Libyan king.
Empusa: A shape-shifting female being with a single copper leg.
Eidolon: A spirit-image of a living or dead person.
Stories of ghouls, or ogres, have existed for centuries, dating back to the pre-Islamic era. A ghoul in these stories is said to be a demon-like being or a monstrous humanoid that dwells in cemeteries, a village cave, orchard, or other uninhabited places.
Saudi Arabian mythology includes stories of ghouls, jinn, and other supernatural beings. These stories are often used to frighten children and keep them safe.

Humar Al-Qaylah
A grotesque creature with the head and legs of a donkey that would harm people during the day. This story was told to keep children safe from the heat.
Western depictions
Western popular culture has borrowed the idea of the ghoul from Arabian folklore. Western stories often depict ghouls as grave diggers who eat the bodies they unearth

Shapeshifters
Jinn are said to be able to change their form and often take the shape of animals, especially snakes.
Spirits of the dead
Jinn are sometimes associated with the spirits of the dead and are said to haunt abandoned places.
Good or evil
Jinn are believed to have free will and can be either good or evil, similar to humans.
Built homes in ruins
Jinn are said to have built homes in the ruins of ancient civilizations, such as Maadain Saleh in Saudi Arabia.

I just spoke with President Claudia Sheinbaum of Mexico. It was a very friendly conversation wherein she agreed to immediately supply 10,000 Mexican Soldiers on the Border separating Mexico and the United States. These soldiers will be specifically designated to stop the flow of fentanyl, and illegal migrants into our Country. We further agreed to immediately pause the anticipated tariffs for a one month period during which we will have negotiations headed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Treasury Scott Bessent, and Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, and high-level Representatives of Mexico. I look forward to participating in those negotiations, with President Sheinbaum, as we attempt to achieve a “deal” between our two Countries.
