Creatures of the night guide us through darkness
A single flame defies the infinite dark
Patience weaves the strongest webs
Delicate threads connect all things
We are creatures of twilight, dancing between shadow and light
Fashion is the armor we wear against the mundane world
In the depths of winter, I finally learned there was an invincible summer within me
I am the night and the light within it
Darkness is my sanctuary, not my prison
I wear my shadows like a crown
My power grows in the quiet dark

After the Munich agreement of 1938 efforts were undertaken to expand the British Army as the threat of war grew. The Territorial Army (TA) was doubled in size and conscription was re-introduced in April 1939. By December of that year over one million men had been drafted into the Army.

My cousin Leeba Ahuva Schlossberg survived the Holocaust while hiding in the forests outside Radin, while her entire family was murdered by the Nazis.
They were not able to escape the Holocaust because Britain violated it’s 1917 promise to build a Jewish home in the ancient land of Israel.
Like the people in this video, she was arrested when she came to the Holy Land.
Why did Britain deny Jews of this basic right?
Because Palestinians violently revolted against the idea of coexisting of their Jewish neighbors in peace.
That is why even after the Holocaust Jews who tried to come to the land that should have been there’s already in 1917 were arrested upon arrival and sent to internment camps in Cypress.
How many millions of lives would have been saved had Palestinians not declared war on the two State solution and to living side by side in peace with their Jewish neighbors?

On this day, the siege of Toulon ended when republican forces recaptured the city from Royalists and their British-Spanish allies. This siege was one of Napoleon’s first major military successes: as a young artillery officer, his plan to seize the heights above the harbor forced the allied fleet to evacuate, securing southern France and greatly boosting his reputation.
The victory marked one of the first times Napoleon’s strategic genius visibly shaped an outcome, paving the way for his rapid rise through the ranks.

“It was snowing. Visibility was low. The troops were not well prepared with equipment, warm clothing, resources. It was tough terrain. It was a tough battle.
My father’s name was James O’Boyle Lyons. And he was in World War II, specifically the Battle of the Bulge.
The Battle of the Bulge began Dec. 16, 1944. They were outnumbered by the Germans, and, found themselves in a fight they couldn’t win. And I think there were thousands that were captured because of it.
My mother was notified that he had been taken prisoner on Dec. 21. And then when he was repatriated, he came home but passed away just a couple weeks later.
I know that he was the kind of man who would hear his country’s call. And give his best, and give his all, as it turns out. Never forget the sacrifices that people made, my father among them.”

Dilip Joseph was an American Doctor in Afghanistan, training his local peers when he was kidn*pped by Taliban fighters hoping for a large ransom. SEAL Team Six had other plans. Just four days after the kidnapping, the operators infiltrated the mountains by helicopter, landing kilometers away from the target compound. They spent the entire night navigating steep terrain in darkness to reach the heavily guarded location undetected. Hostage rescues like this operate under the highest level of secrecy, and the team masked their approach until the very last moment.
Chief Special Warfare Operator Nicolas Checque was leading the assault force through the courtyard when he noticed they’d been spotted. An enemy guard saw them and quickly disappeared into the building where the hostage was being held. Checque knew what that meant. If the guard reached Dr. Joseph first, the mission was over. Without hesitation, he sprinted after the guard and was the first man to make entry, fully knowing the men inside were alerted and prepared. He was met with enemy fire at close range and mortally wounded.
The teammates who flooded in behind him neutralized the threat and rescued Dr. Joseph unharmed. Checque’s decision to go in first and bring the fight to the enemy without wasting a second saved the hostage’s life.

This photograph captures Oxford Street on October 14, 1970, at a moment when London was quietly pivoting between eras….
Front and center is Marks & Spencer, its bold lettering and brightly lit interior acting almost like a magnet. People spill out onto the pavement, mid-stride, mid-conversation, wrapped in coats and sensible shoes. There’s no rush, no panic — just the steady rhythm of a city moving through an ordinary weekday. Shopping bags hang from hands. Heads turn. Lives intersect for a few seconds before drifting apart again.
The fashion tells its own story. Women in tailored coats, short skirts, and low heels. Men in dark suits, ties neatly knotted, hair carefully combed. This is post-Swinging Sixties Britain — the rebellion has cooled, but traces of it remain. Practicality is back, yet individuality still peeks through in hems, hairstyles, and confident posture. You can almost feel the texture of wool coats and hear the soft echo of footsteps on concrete.
There are no phones in anyone’s hands. No one is performing for a camera. Faces are relaxed, unguarded, absorbed in the physical world around them. Shopping is tactile. Time feels slower. Even the crowd feels polite, almost orderly — a uniquely British choreography of personal space and quiet patience.
Marks & Spencer itself symbolizes stability. In 1970, it wasn’t just a shop — it was a promise. Reliable clothes. Affordable food. A place families trusted. For many, a trip here was routine, comforting, part of life’s structure in a changing world.
What makes this image powerful isn’t drama — it’s normalcy. This is London breathing. A snapshot of a generation that rebuilt after war, raised families, worked long hours, and found small pleasures in errands and routines.

In the spirit of Christmas, I just wanted to say thanks to everyone that helped us break out on X these past couple of months since the launch of our Gen 2 Level IV plates.
Everyone was pretty exhausted and frustrated figuring it out and making it work in addition to keeping up with production on everything else. On more than one occasion we almost gave up on it.
But we always believed that if we built the best products at the best prices, people would come. We saw Generation 2 as a way to shake up the armor market and make the big boys pay attention to law enforcement and civilians and lower their absurd prices.
We are working on 1165 G2 side plates and 11X14 SAPIs for those of you waiting on those. They are coming! And we might have a few more surprises next year as we go into R&D overdrive.
We started by bringing ceramic Level IV plates to the masses. Now, we’ll keep bringing thin and lightweight armor to the masses at prices that can’t be beat.
I can’t wait to show you what else we have in store. Thank you for trusting us to protect you, your community, and our incredible country.

Discovered in 1943 during the construction of an airfield near Porth-y-Waen on the Welsh coast, this iron chain gang is a testament to the brutality of the period. The chain is an impressive 6.6kg, and it connects five individual neck shackles, which were used to bind slaves or criminals together. When it was unearthed, the chain’s strength was so well-preserved that the workers who found it were able to use it to tow vehicles, a stark and chilling detail that speaks to its durability.
The chain falls within the Late Iron Age, a period of significant social change in Britain, marked by increasing contact with the Roman Empire. While the Roman influence on Britain was growing, the use of chains like this one was likely a Celtic practice, later adopted and adapted by the Romans. The chain features neck-plates designed to link five individuals by their necks, connected by oval and figure-of-eight links. The presence of five individual collars suggests it was used for a small group, likely for transport, public humiliation, or forced labor.
Such chains offer a somber insight into the practice of slavery in ancient times, particularly during the Iron Age and Roman periods, where slaves were a significant export from Britain. The chains, despite their oppressive nature, also demonstrate the quality of metalwork during that era.
Today, this type of artifact is rare, as iron corrodes easily, so its preservation is exceptional. It offers a tangible and sobering glimpse into a brutal aspect of life in Iron Age Britain, a period we often understand only through archaeological remains and Roman accounts.

This “misidentification” stems from cultural preferences in translation rather than ancient misunderstanding—the biblical authors knew these birds well.
Bearded vultures (lammergeiers)—bone-eating scavengers sometimes linked to biblical “eagles.”
This identification is supported by modern biblical zoology scholars, ornithologists in Israel, and historical analyses, based on the bird’s described traits, behavior, and prevalence in the region.
biblical times and ancient Near Eastern contexts, the Hebrew word nesher (נֶשֶׁר), traditionally translated as “eagle” in most English Bibles (e.g., KJV, NIV, ESV), most likely referred primarily to the griffon vulture (Gyps fulvus) rather than a true eagle.

18 December 1942 | SS garrison Order 35/42 announced that due to the start of the holiday and New Year period, the so-called camp lockdown (Lagersperre) for SS members was relaxed. However, previous disinfection procedures were maintained: SS men were required to undergo medical examinations and disinfect themselves along with any luggage they were taking, and leave the camp immediately afterward. Before departure, they were allowed to stay at the Haus der Waffen SS hotel. It was also announced that for the Julfeier holiday, the SS kitchen would provide increased amounts of cakes.

On the same day, an SS doctor conducted a selection in the camp hospital (Block 28), where 64 ill prisoners were deemed unlikely to recover quickly. They were killed that day by phenol injections to the heart.

“The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pride in presenting the Medal of Honor (Posthumously) to Private First Class Richard Eller Cowan, United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action above and beyond the call of duty while serving with Company M, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division.
Private First Class Cowan was a heavy machine gunner in a section attached to Company I in the vicinity of Krinkelter Wald, Belgium, 17 December 1944, when that company was attacked by a numerically superior force of German infantry and tanks.
The first six waves of hostile infantrymen were repulsed with heavy casualties, but a seventh drive with tanks killed or wounded all but three of his section, leaving Private Cowan to man his gun, supported by only 15 to 20 riflemen of Company I.
He maintained his position, holding off the Germans until the rest of the shattered force had set up a new line along a firebreak. Then, unaided, he moved his machinegun and ammunition to the second position.
At the approach of a Royal Tiger tank, he held his fire until about 80 enemy infantrymen supporting the tank appeared at a distance of about 150 yards. His first burst killed or wounded about half of these infantrymen.
His position was rocked by an 88-mm. shell when the tank opened fire, but he continued to man his gun, pouring deadly fire into the Germans when they again advanced. He was barely missed by another shell. Fire from three machineguns and innumerable small arms struck all about him; an enemy rocket shook him badly, but did not drive him from his gun. Infiltration by the enemy had by this time made the position untenable, and the order was given to withdraw.
Private Cowan was the last man to leave, voluntarily covering the withdrawal of his remaining comrades. His heroic actions were entirely responsible for allowing the remaining men to retire successfully from the scene of their last-ditch stand.”

Tapestries, typically woven of wool or cotton, were used to decorate interior walls and to serve as insulation during the Middle Ages. Perhaps the most famous of the medieval tapestries are the six we know as “the Lady and the Unicorn.”
The tapestries were created in Flanders around 1500 by an artist who identity has been lost to time. In 1841 the writer and historic preservationist Prosper Mérimée was staying at the Château of Boussac in central France, while on an inspection tour of historic sites. His friend the novelist George Sand lived nearby and while they were exploring the castle together, they discovered the tapestries in storage. Although the tapestries were suffering from neglect and damage from improper storage, both Mérimée and Sand immediately recognized their value. Sand made them famous in a novel she published three years later, correctly dating them by reference to how the ladies were dressed. Mérimée assured that the tapestries were preserved by helping arrange for the French government to purchase them. In 1861, after they were conditioned and restored, the tapestries were put on display in the Cluny Museum of the Middle Ages in Paris (of which Mérimée was one of the founders). The tapestries still hang in the Cluny today and remain a popular tourist favorite.
Five of the tapestries are believed to represent the five senses—touch, hearing, sight, smell, and taste. The meaning of the sixth tapestry is more obscure. On it is inscribed “À mon seul désir” (To my only desire). There are numerous theories about what the tapestry is meant to represent. It is likely a reference to chivalric courtship/love but is open to many interpretations. The sense of fantasy and mystery the tapestries evoke has contributed to their continuing appeal.
📷 : a photo of the “À mon seul désir” tapestry. It is the largest of the six tapestries, measuring approximately 12.5 feet by 15 feet. The other five average about 12 feet by 10 feet.

Ghosts of Winter’s Night: Ancient Christmas Stories, Sacred Recipes, and Solstice Mysteries
A Journey Through Folklore, Faith, and Festivity at the Darkest Time of Year
Introduction: Shadows and Spirits of the Winter Solstice
As the days grow shorter and the nights stretch their icy fingers across the land, December beckons us to gather close to the hearth and share tales woven with wonder, mystery, and the supernatural. Throughout history, winter—especially the weeks surrounding the solstice—has been a season shrouded in legends of ghosts and spirits. From ancient pagan rituals and sacred Jewish feasts to the haunting echoes of Christmas Bible stories, humanity’s fascination with the otherworldly is deeply entwined with our holiday traditions.
This article explores the chilling and enchanting ghost stories that have haunted Christmases past, the biblical encounters with spirits, the comforting Jewish recipes prepared as the solstice arrives, and the world’s diverse pagan perspectives on this magical time. Together, these threads reveal the interconnectedness of winter’s mysteries and the universal longing for warmth, light, and hope amid darkness.
Ancient Christmas Ghost Stories: Folklore and Legends from Europe
Long before the familiar image of Christmas as a purely joyful celebration, the season was considered a liminal period—a time when the veil between the living and the dead thinned. In medieval England, for example, it was not Halloween but Christmas Eve that was most associated with ghost stories. Families gathered on snowy nights to share tales of restless spirits, haunted manors, and spectral visitors seeking forgiveness or conveying warnings.
One of the most enduring legends is that of the “Yule Ghosts.” In Norse and Germanic traditions, the Wild Hunt—a thunderous procession of phantoms led by the god Odin or another supernatural figure—was said to ride across the winter skies. Those caught outside might witness this ghostly cavalcade, said to portend disaster or death. People would stay indoors, lighting fires and hanging charms to ward off these wandering souls.
Victorian England revived the custom of Christmas ghost stories, most famously through Charles Dickens’s “A Christmas Carol.” The chilling visitations of Marley’s Ghost and the three Spirits of Christmas are direct descendants of older solstice tales, blending moral lessons with the eerie thrill of the supernatural. Dickens himself noted the tradition, writing in 1850, “There is no time of year when an amiable spirit is more abroad than at Christmas.”
Across Europe, similar legends abound. In Iceland, the Grýla—a monstrous, ghostly figure—roams the land in search of misbehaving children. In Italy, the Befana, a witchlike spirit, visits homes on Epiphany Eve, leaving gifts or coal. These stories served not only to entertain but also to reinforce social norms and bring communities together in the face of winter’s dangers.
Christmas Bible Ghost Stories: Supernatural Tales in Sacred Texts
The Bible, too, contains stories that resonate with the spectral and mysterious. While the birth of Jesus is the central focus of the Christmas narrative, the wider biblical text is rich with moments where spirits, dreams, and supernatural messengers cross into the world of the living.
One of the most striking examples is the story found in the First Book of Samuel, where King Saul, desperate for guidance before battle, seeks out the Witch of Endor. In a midnight ritual, she summons the ghost of the prophet Samuel, who appears from the earth to deliver ominous prophecies. This chilling episode, filled with suspense and otherworldly dread, is often revisited during the season as a reflection on the boundaries between life and death.
The nativity story itself is suffused with supernatural encounters. The angelic hosts who appear to the shepherds are often depicted as radiant and awe-inspiring, but in older accounts, such celestial beings were also viewed with fear and trembling. The Gospel of Matthew describes Joseph’s dreams, in which an angelic presence warns and guides him—a subtle but powerful brush with the supernatural.
Even after Jesus’s birth, stories of spirits continue: the resurrected Christ appears to his disciples in locked rooms, sometimes mistaken for a ghost until he invites them to touch his wounds and share a meal. These passages remind us that the boundary between the sacred and the spectral is not always clear, even in the holiest of seasons.
Jewish Traditional Recipes and the Winter Solstice: Culinary Customs and Symbolic Meanings
While Judaism does not celebrate Christmas, the winter solstice often coincides with Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights—a celebration of hope, resilience, and miracles. On the darkest nights of the year, Jewish families gather to light the menorah, sing songs, and share special foods whose ingredients and preparation carry deep symbolic meaning.
Classic Hanukkah dishes, such as latkes (potato pancakes) and sufganiyot (jelly-filled doughnuts), are both fried in oil, commemorating the miracle of the Temple’s menorah burning for eight days on a single day’s supply. The golden glow of frying oil mirrors the hoped-for return of sunlight and warmth at the solstice. Other traditional recipes include kugel, a sweet or savory noodle pudding, and brisket slow-cooked with root vegetables, offering nourishment and comfort during winter’s chill.
These foods are not just sustenance—they are edible talismans, connecting generations and reminding families that even during the darkest season, light and joy can be found. In some regions, Jewish communities adopted solstice customs from surrounding cultures, blending sweet spices, dried fruits, or nuts into their recipes to symbolize abundance and the promise of renewal.
Worldwide Pagan Views: Solstice Celebrations and Ghostly Folklore
Winter solstice—the longest night and the turning point toward the sun’s return—has been celebrated across the globe with rituals that often invoke spirits, ancestors, and the supernatural. For the ancient Celts, Yule marked a sacred time when the “old year” died and the “new year” was born. Bonfires were lit to ward off evil spirits and call back the weakened sun, while tales of ghosts and faeries abounded.
In Slavic traditions, the solstice was a time of ancestor veneration. Families set extra places at the table for the spirits of the departed, believing that they returned to join in the feast. Fortune-telling and ghost stories were common entertainment, each tale laced with lessons about fate, kindness, and the unseen world.
Further east, in Japan, the festival of Toji coincides with the solstice. While not explicitly ghostly, the tradition of bathing with yuzu citrus to drive away evil spirits echoes similar themes of protection and purification found in Western Yule customs.
Indigenous peoples of the Americas also recognized the solstice with ceremonies honoring the spirits of nature and ancestors. Storytelling—often featuring animal spirits, tricksters, and shadowy beings—was central to these gatherings. Such tales affirmed the cycle of death and rebirth, encouraging communities to face the darkness with hope.
Conclusion: The Interconnectedness of Winter Traditions and Supernatural Tales
The winter solstice, Christmas, Hanukkah, and the array of pagan celebrations are united by more than their timing. In the hush and mystery of the year’s longest nights, people have always turned to stories—of ghosts, miracles, and feasts—as a way to understand mortality, honor ancestors, and kindle joy in the face of darkness. Whether it is a spectral visitor in a Dickensian parlor, the flicker of a menorah, or the crackle of Yule logs, these traditions speak to our enduring need for wonder and connection.
As you gather with loved ones this season, remember the ancient voices that echo through the night. Listen for the ghosts of Christmas past, taste the foods that have sustained generations, and honor the solstice with light, laughter, and a touch of mystery.
The Significance of Eagles: Symbolism, Mythology, and Cultural Impact
A Comprehensive Exploration of Eagles in Religion, Culture, the United States, and Beyond
Introduction: Eagles as Enduring Symbols
Eagles have captivated human imagination for millennia, soaring above landscapes as majestic rulers of the skies. With their keen eyesight, formidable strength, and commanding presence, eagles have become one of the most prominent symbols across religious, cultural, and historical narratives worldwide. In the United States, the eagle—and especially the Bald Eagle—serves as a potent emblem of freedom, power, and national pride. This article examines the multifaceted associations of eagles, tracing their significance in religion, culture, mythology, history, fashion, magic, battles, dreams, and more.
Eagles in Religion: Sacred Birds Across Faiths
Christianity and the Eagle
In Christian iconography, the eagle is closely tied to themes of renewal, resurrection, and divine inspiration. The eagle is a traditional symbol for Saint John the Evangelist, whose gospel soars at great theological heights. References in the Bible, such as Isaiah 40:31—”They will soar on wings like eagles”—use the eagle to represent spiritual strength, hope, and closeness to God. The bird’s ability to fly high and gaze directly into sunlight is seen as a metaphor for the soul’s aspiration toward the divine.
Native American Spirituality
For many Native American tribes, eagles occupy a sacred role as messengers between humans and the Creator. The Bald and Golden Eagles are often regarded as spiritual intermediaries; their feathers are used in rituals, ceremonies, and regalia to bestow blessings and protection. The eagle’s flight embodies freedom, courage, and the connection between the physical and spiritual worlds. To some nations, the eagle is an ancestor, a clan symbol, or even a guide in vision quests.
Eagles in Other World Religions
In Islam, the eagle is less central but still appears as a symbol of power and vision, occasionally mentioned in connection with royalty and war. In Hinduism, Garuda, the mighty eagle, is the mount of Vishnu, representing strength and the triumph of good over evil. In ancient Egyptian religion, the eagle was associated with the sun and with Horus, the sky god, signifying kingship and divine authority.
Eagles in Culture and Mythology: Legends That Soar
Global Mythology
From the ancient Greeks to the indigenous peoples of the Americas, eagles are prominent figures in myths. In Greek mythology, Zeus, the king of the gods, often transforms into an eagle or sends an eagle to carry messages or abduct mortals, highlighting the bird’s association with divine will and power. The Roman legions carried aquilae (eagle standards) as symbols of their might and unity.
Fairytales and Folklore
In folktales, eagles are often portrayed as wise and noble creatures capable of extraordinary feats. They may rescue heroes, deliver prophecies, or serve as animal helpers. Across European fairy tales, the eagle’s imagery is intertwined with themes of transformation and transcendence. In American folklore, the eagle represents the untamed wilderness and the quest for liberty.
United States Mythology
The Bald Eagle’s selection as the national bird of the United States in 1782 marked a pivotal moment in American mythology. It was chosen for its long life, great strength, and majestic looks, becoming a symbol of independence and democracy. The eagle appears on the Great Seal of the United States, clenching arrows and an olive branch, representing both wartime readiness and a desire for peace.
Eagles in US History and Wars: Emblems of Strength
Iconography and Military Emblems
The eagle has long been a staple of American iconography. State seals, currency, and official documents all feature the bird. In the military, eagle imagery is ubiquitous: from the insignia of the United States Marine Corps to the Air Force, the eagle connotes vigilance, liberty, and unyielding courage. During wartime, eagle motifs have inspired soldiers and citizens alike, serving as rallying symbols and morale boosters.
Eagles in Historical Battles
While eagles themselves do not participate in battles, their symbolism carries weight. Roman armies famously rallied around eagle standards; in the United States, the Bald Eagle has been a symbol of military prowess since the Revolutionary War. Medals and decorations, such as the Silver Eagle, honor acts of valor. Eagle imagery in battle flags and propaganda has galvanized support for wars and celebrated victories.
Eagles in Fashion, Magic, and Dreams
Eagles in Fashion
Eagle motifs have been popular in fashion, appearing in jewelry, badges, and clothing. The bird’s striking form lends itself to artistic representation in both traditional and contemporary designs. Military uniforms often incorporate eagle insignia, while luxury brands use eagle emblems to denote prestige and exclusivity.
Eagles in Magical Traditions
Throughout history, eagles have been associated with magical practices. In various cultures, eagle feathers and talismans are believed to confer protection, courage, and spiritual power. Alchemists and magicians have invoked eagle symbolism to represent ascension, enlightenment, and transformation. In Native American traditions, eagle feathers are sacred and used in healing and ceremonial magic.
Eagles in Dreams
Dreaming of eagles is often interpreted as a sign of ambition, freedom, and a higher calling. Eagle dreams may indicate a need for perspective, courage, or spiritual awakening. Psychologically, eagles in dreams can reflect the dreamer’s desire to rise above challenges and achieve greatness.
Conclusion: The Enduring Legacy of Eagles
Across religions, cultures, and historical epochs, the eagle endures as a symbol of transcendence, power, and hope. In the United States, its image is synonymous with freedom and strength. Globally, the eagle’s representation in mythology, fashion, magic, and dreams underscores its universal appeal. Whether inspiring faith, leading armies, or adorning everyday objects, the eagle’s legacy continues to soar—unbound and timeless.

Scientists have announced the discovery of Gliese 12 b, an Earth-sized planet located just 40 light years from us. Detected in May 2024 using NASA’s TESS telescope, the planet is almost exactly Earth’s size and likely rocky. It orbits a small, cool red dwarf star called Gliese 12, which is only about 27% the size of our Sun. Even more intriguing — it completes an orbit every 12.8 days, placing it right in the star’s habitable zone.
That means temperatures could be just right for liquid water — and possibly life.

Cpl Andy Reid MBE, who lost both legs and his right arm after being injured by an IED in Afghanistan in 2009, has inspired a campaign in Parliament for a new medal to recognise British service personnel injured in combat.
His local MP, David Baines, raised the issue in the House of Commons, noting there is currently no medal automatically awarded to soldiers who survive serious battlefield injuries, despite more than 2,600 personnel being wounded since 2006.
Veterans Minister Louise Sandher-Jones said the government is considering whether a defined injury medal would be an appropriate form of recognition, with any changes needing to follow the official honours process.
Cpl Reid thanked his MP for raising the issue in parliament and said that for some injured troops “a thank you from the nation that might just pull them out of that dark place and move forward with their lives towards a better future”.

Some ancient sources such as the Greek geographer and historian Strabo, Roman historian Marcus Iunianus Justinus and the ancient Greek historian Herodotus wrote about a Scythian tradition where the new king/leader would prove himself by killing his predecessor, who was often his own father or brother. So this patricide and fratricide was present among the Scythian peoples.
Archaeological excavations in burial mounds at Scythia Kurgan have uncovered graves where the injury marks found on male skeletons were signs of murder or sacrifice, sometimes alongside the main dead. This suggests that fratricide may have been part of ancient Scythian royal burial rites.
Scythian kingdoms were defined patrilineally, and succession disputes or disputes could arise between brothers. Killing rivals, including brothers, was one way for an ambitious man to gain power. Scythians valued strength, courage and valor in battle. Ritual killing of one’s own relatives, especially father or brother, was a way of demonstrating these warrior virtues according to their cultural code. However, fratricide was probably not a common practice and may have depended on the particular ruling clan or the circumstances involved. According to some records, further studies of Scythian social structures and succession traditions are needed.

Around 2000 year old; Marble Thrones (Prohedria); at the ancient Theatre of Amphiareion of Oropos, Greece 🇬🇷
Amphiareion of Oropos, situated in the hills 6km southeast of fortified port of Oropos, was a sanctuary dedicated in late 5th Century BC to hero Amphiaraos, where pilgrims went to seek oracular responses and healing. It became particularly successful during 4th Century BC, to judge from intensive building at the site. Hero Amphiaraos was a descendant of seer Melampos and initially refused to participate in attack on Thebes because he could foresee that it would be a disaster. In some versions of myth, earth opens and swallows chariot of Amphiaraos, transforming him into a chthonic hero. An inscription from the site, however, states that each man may sacrifice what he wants. Some variation in practice during 9 Centuries of cult activity at the sanctuary may be expected. The baths of the site were famous in antiquity. Today, site is found east of modern town Markopoulo Oropou in Oropos municipality of Attica, Greece.
