Adam & Eve — The First Love
“In Eden’s bower, where rivers four did flow,
The first of lovers learned what hearts could know.
From bone of bone and flesh of flesh made one,
Beneath the watchful gaze of moon and sun.”
Before kingdoms rose, before gods were named, there was a garden. Here, love emerged raw and wild — not yet tamed by civilization’s hand. Adam knew Eve, and in that knowing, humanity’s endless pursuit of connection began. The serpent whispered of forbidden knowledge, but the true fruit was love itself — dangerous, transformative, eternal.
Our historical responsibility remains: Antisemitism has no place in Germany. We remember the systematic murder of Jewish women and men – on this Holocaust Remembrance Day as on every other day. Never again may such a thing happen.

Olympus & Ancient Deities
Aphrodite / Venus
“Born of sea-foam, crowned with myrtle fair,
She rises where the waves caress the air.
Greece named her Aphrodite, Rome said Venus—
Both tongues agree: desire flows between us.”
From Cyprus shores she emerged, goddess of beauty and desire. Her sacred doves and roses became eternal symbols. In her temple, love was worship, passion was prayer.
Cupid / Eros
“With golden arrow poised and bow drawn tight,
The winged boy shoots love into the night.
No mortal heart nor god’s escapes his aim—
All burn alike within his sacred flame.”
Son of Venus, this mischievous archer sparked divine romances and mortal obsessions alike. His tale with Psyche became love’s greatest allegory.
Diana / Artemis
“Virgin huntress, silver-crowned and free,
She guards the wild love that will not be
Tamed by marriage vow or hearth’s warm flame—
Her love: the forest, moon, and creatures tame.”
The fierce twin of Apollo chose eternal maidenhood — yet her love was vast: for wilderness, for her hunting companions, for freedom itself.
Temples of Rome & Greece
“Where marble columns touch Olympian sky,
The ancients taught us how to love and why.
Agape, Eros, Philia, Storge—four names
For love’s great fire with its different flames.”
The Greeks gave love a philosophy; Romans gave it empire. From Sappho’s Lesbos to the Colosseum’s roar, love took many forms.
Shadows & the Gothic Heart
Lucifer — The Light-Bearer’s Love
“Before the fall, the morning star blazed bright,
Pride turned to darkness, love to endless night.
Yet in the shadow, passion burns more fierce—
Forbidden love, through heart and soul to pierce.”
The Romantics reimagined Satan not as villain but as tragic lover — Milton’s Paradise Lost gave voice to love twisted by pride. Byron, Shelley, and the gothic poets found beauty in the fallen.
German Gothic Legends
“In Schwarzwald deep where ancient spirits dwell,
The Erlkönig rides, and lovers know full well
That death and love are twins in shadow’s dance—
The Lorelei sings, and sailors fall to trance.”
German Romanticism birthed tales of doomed love: the Lorelei luring sailors to watery graves, Faust trading his soul for forbidden desire, and the Erlking claiming children in the night.
Transylvania & Romania
“In Carpathian peaks where wolves still howl,
Vlad’s castle stands beneath the moon’s dark cowl.
Eternal love? The vampire knows it best—
A kiss upon the throat, eternal rest.”
Dracula transformed love into immortal hunger. Romanian folklore speaks of strigoi (undead) and the devastating passion that transcends death itself.
Aradia — Queen of Witches
“Daughter of Diana and the sun’s bright lord,
She taught the Old Ways with love’s secret word.
Italian hills remember her moon-dance—
Where witches gather, love finds second chance.”
In Italian witchcraft tradition, Aradia descended to earth to teach magic to the oppressed. Her legacy speaks of love outside church walls — wild, free, and transformative.
Saints of Love
Saint Valentine
“In Rome’s dark prison, love’s priest would not yield—
He married lovers, their devotion sealed.
For this, Claudius took his mortal breath,
But love, dear Valentine, transcends all death.”
The 3rd-century priest defied Emperor Claudius II, secretly wedding soldiers forbidden to marry. His execution on February 14th birthed a celebration that spans the globe — from English poetry to Japanese chocolate traditions.
Saint Dwynwen
“Welsh princess of broken heart made whole,
January 25th, she guards each soul
Who loves in vain or hopes to love again—
Patron saint of lovers’ joy and pain.”
Saint Anthony of Padua
“In Portugal and Brazil, his feast brings love—
June’s patron of lost things and those who shove
Their prayers toward heaven for a faithful match,
A heart to hold, a soul to catch.”
Saint Raphael
“Archangel who guided Tobias to his bride,
He walks with lovers, ever at their side.
Patron of happy meetings, matchmakers true—
He brings together souls both old and new.”

Crowns & Passions
England — Tudor Passions
“Six wives knew Henry’s love — and some his blade,
Anne Boleyn’s thousand days, then debts were paid.
Victoria mourned Albert forty years—
Crown’d heads know deepest love, and deepest tears.”
From the tragic Anne Boleyn to Victoria’s eternal mourning of Prince Albert, English royalty wrote love in blood and devotion.
France — L’amour Royal
“Let them eat cake! cried she of Austrian blood,
Marie Antoinette loved before the flood.
Versailles knew scandal, passion, and intrigue—
The Sun King’s court where love was its own league.”
Louis XIV’s legendary affairs, Marie Antoinette’s tragic romance with Count Fersen — French courts perfected the art of amour.
Russia
“Catherine the Great took power and took lovers,
While Nicholas and Alexandra, ill-starred brothers
Of fate, loved deep beneath Rasputin’s spell—
A dynasty’s love story none could tell.”
Spain
“Isabella chose Ferdinand, united the throne,
Their love built empires from seeds they’d sown.
Juana la Loca’s madness was for love—
She carried Philip’s corpse, her fallen dove.”
Scandinavia
“Viking kings wed for alliance, stayed for love,
Christian IV’s mistress rose high above.
Sweden’s Christina chose to abdicate—
For love of freedom, she defied her fate.”
Ukraine & Israel
“Roxelana rose from slave to Sultan’s queen,
Ukrainian beauty, Constantinople’s dream.
While Solomon sang songs for Shulammite—
‘Set me as seal upon your heart’ each night.”
Greenland & the North
“Where northern lights paint lovers’ vows in sky,
Inuit tales tell of spirits drawing nigh.
The aurora dances — souls of those who’ve passed,
Their love illuminating, vast and vast.”

Love remains the only truth we know.
It wore the face of goddess, saint, and queen,
Spoke every tongue, graced every scene.”
“The Greeks philosophized its many forms,
Romans built it temples, weathered storms.
Gothic towers reached to shadow’s height,
Where dark and light embraced each night.”
